Yes. Buying raw gemstones is legal for personal purchase and commercial import under most countries' laws. Export from Afghanistan requires proper documentation — we walk you through the process and can introduce you to licensed exporters. Gem dealing at scale should involve a customs agent in both Afghanistan and your home country.
Afghanistan currently issues visas on a case-by-case basis. We provide official invitation letters that facilitate business or tourist visas from Afghan embassies. Most of our business clients come on the same visa as leisure travellers. Allow 3–4 weeks for visa processing.
You negotiate directly with suppliers — that's the whole point. Go Kabul charges only for the tour/fixer package (logistics, introductions, translation). We have no commercial interest in what price you agree with the supplier. Our goal is to get you the best deal possible so you come back.
For smaller quantities, most buyers carry purchases as checked baggage or hand luggage. For larger commercial shipments, we can introduce you to freight forwarders in Kabul who handle export paperwork and international shipping. Carpet and dried fruit exports are very common — logistics infrastructure exists.
This varies by supplier and category. Carpet weavers will sell single pieces to serious buyers; wholesalers typically want minimum orders of 10–20 pieces. Gem dealers sell by the gram or kilogram with no firm minimum. Saffron farms often have a 1kg minimum for wholesale pricing. We'll brief you on each supplier's terms before you meet them.
