Eight days covering Kabul, Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif. A round-trip flight from Kabul opens the Herat leg, with the minarets, the Mausoleum of Gawhar Shad Begum, the citadel and the Friday Mosque, before the overland drive north over the Salang Pass to Mazar-i-Sharif, the Blue Mosque and ancient Balkh.
